Day 2: Pages 4-6

Wow there is so much to talk about in these pages:

• Lehi building an altar and giving thanks.
• Nephi conversing with the Lord for the first time.
• The river of Laman and the valley of Lemuel.

Don't worry I'll only talk about 2 things which always stand out to me.

1. The first appearance of the Book of Mormon Promise.

The Book of Mormon Promise is the most stated promise found throughout the book. Simply put, it is the idea that if the people are righteous they will prosper, but if they are wicked they will not prosper.

1 Nephi 2:20-21 is the first occurrence of this promise that you will read again and again.

2. Like Father, Like Son.

We often focus on 1 Nephi 3:7. In fact, I bet you can tell me what that scripture is without even looking it up. I like to group that scripture which epitomizes Nephi's obedience, with one from our reading yesterday, 1 Nephi 2:3. It states:

"And it came to pass that he (Lehi) was obedient unto the word of the Lord, wherefore he did as the Lord commanded him."

This is the simple statement of Lehi's obedience. Where do you think Nephi learned that if you follow the Lord's commands, the Lord will bless you? From his father. Like Father, Like Son!
